Castlepollard town was founded by the Pollard family and its name is derived from a castle built by the family.  The town is built around a square with a village green at its centre.  This vibrant town in North Westmeath has an abundance of accomodation and plenty to offer a visitor.

Castlepollard is close to two famous lakes: Lough Derravaragh and Lough Lene which have links with history and folklore.  Lough Derravaragh approx 5km from Castlepollard is associated with the story of the Children of Lir and the scenic Lough Lene is a short 10km drive away, here is one of three designated bathing areas in Westmeath. 

A visit to Mullaghmeen Forest Trails is a must it is the largest planted beech forest in Ireland.and has an extensive network of way marked trails for varying levels of fitness,

Only 5 mins away from Castlepollard is the tiny village of Fore, known for its 7th Century Monastery and the intriguing 'Seven Wonders of Fore'.  Visitors can view the site where St Fechin founded the Christian monastery, where 300 monks once lived.
