The pretty rural village of Rosemount has a rich history. In 1834 a pre-famine census of the population of the Parish of Kilcrumreragh, which overlaps the Westmeath Offaly border was recorded. This rare document gives an account of the people of Rosemount and a great insight into the history of the village.
There is a picturesque bronze age cairn on the top of Knockastia (Cnoc Aiste), which was a place of enormous importance to our Bronze Age ancestors.
There is a disused quarry on the side of Cnoc Aiste, which has been identified as a County Geological Site in the Geological Survey of County Westmeath. This survey identifies the quarry as a good representative site for displaying Waulsortian Limestone. The quarry has also been recognised as a valuable habitats for wildlife
including birds of prey.
